Open demonstration event showcases UC-CITIES-1 and UC-CITIES-3 in Aveiro, Portugal

On 28 May 2025, Altice Labs and the Instituto de Telecomunicações held an open demonstration event in Aveiro, Portugal, featuring two of the 6G-PATH project’s urban-focused use cases:

  • UC-CITIES-1 – Connected and Sensing City
  • UC-CITIES-3 – Security Coordination

The event welcomed a diverse audience including researchers, practitioners, and the general public, offering a hands-on look at how advanced communication technologies can support smart cities and public safety.

UC-CITIES-1: Connected and Sensing City

This demonstration focused on real-time urban data collection. It featured an autonomous vehicle operating within a test environment equipped with environmental and mobility sensors, including video cameras and people-sensing technology. The goal was to show how sensor-enabled mobility can enhance urban intelligence and support traffic management, environmental monitoring, and smart city services.

UC-CITIES-3: Security Coordination

The second use case addressed mission-critical communication in emergency scenarios. It showcased a 5G network enabled by a drone, providing reliable, on-demand connectivity in areas lacking infrastructure. The solution was demonstrated in a real-world environment, highlighting its potential for crisis response and coordinated security operations.

Stakeholder Engagement

As part of the KVI efforts, participants were invited to provide feedback through interviews and questionnaires. These insights will contribute to assessing the societal relevance and impact of the technologies demonstrated.

This open demonstration event reflects 6G-PATH’s commitment to real-world experimentation, public engagement, and the advancement of innovative connectivity solutions for future smart and secure cities.
