Karlstad University explores 6G-powered training for emergency medical responders
As part of the 6G-PATH project, Karlstad University (KAU) is pushing the boundaries of how 5G and 6G technologies can support realistic, scalable, and cost-effective prehospital nursing education.
In a recent trial in late April 2025, KAU demonstrated how future networks can be leveraged to livestream high-fidelity emergency simulations, enabling students in ambulance care to train with immersive, interactive scenarios. These simulations, powered by advanced wireless connectivity, provide a dynamic learning environment that mirrors real-life situations, supporting better decision-making under pressure.
By combining expertise in computer science, wireless communication, and medical education, the trial showcases how low-latency and high-bandwidth communication can enable both enhanced student training and, in the long run, remote specialist support for paramedics in the field.
