UC-CITIES-1 Demonstrates Edge Offloading and Network Digital Twins at Aveiro Testbed
On 14 April 2026, the 6G-PATH UC-CITIES-1 use case carried out successful field trials at the Aveiro Testbed (Portugal) during the XI Seminário IDN Jovem event.
The demonstration focused on Edge Offloading and Network Digital Twins, showing how computing tasks can be moved to the edge to reduce latency and improve performance, while digital twins enable real-time monitoring and simulation of network conditions for more resilient infrastructure management.
The trial was presented to a diverse audience of military and police authorities, students, researchers, and citizens, who engaged directly with the technologies and provided feedback through Key Value Indicator (KVI) questionnaires, linking user experience with technical KPIs.
The results highlighted the value of combining edge computing and digital twin technologies to support more efficient and adaptive smart city infrastructures.
