DETO-XR

Dynamic Edge Tracking Optimization for XR
Revolutionizing immersive Mixed Reality through 6G-native, AI-driven Multiple Object Tracking as a Service
The DETO-XR project aims to overcome the hardware limitations of current Extended Reality (XR) devices by offloading compute-intensive functions to the 6G-enabled cognitive edge continuum. While Mixed Reality (MR) holds transformative potential for Education, Healthcare, and Industry 5.0, its mass adoption is hindered by extreme sensitivity to latency, jitter, and inconsistent resources. High-end head-mounted displays often lack the CPU/GPU capacity to maintain the required accuracy for real-time environment detection and 3D rendering in dynamic, multi-user settings.
Leveraging the 6G-PATH (specifically the 6G-INCOGNICO) testbed, DETO-XR transforms a traditional MR platform into a scalable Multiple Object Tracking as a Service (MOTaaS). The project implements a closed-loop orchestration framework that jointly optimizes network and compute resources. Key innovations include Network-aware control using CAMARA APIs to bound jitter through traffic influence and slicing, and Compute-aware control for AI-assisted component migration and on-demand GPU boosting.
By adapting interactive MR games (Car Soccer and Pac-Man) as instrumented experiments, the project validates the 6G advantage under network congestion and unpredictable workloads. The results will quantify “sessions-per-edge-GPU” scalability and demonstrate how prioritized 6G flows can eliminate consecutive frame drops. Beyond technical KPIs, DETO-XR ensures reproducibility by providing open ELCM scenarios and anonymized telemetry datasets, establishing a blueprint for next-generation, energy-efficient, and immersive XR laboratories in the 6G era.
