Agentic RAG-Orchestrated Management for Adaptive Network Slicing in Smart Cities
Smarter Networks, Autonomously Managed: AI-Driven Orchestration for the 6G Era
As 6G networks take shape, one critical challenge stands out: managing network slices dynamically enough to support the complex, real-time demands of tomorrow’s applications. Traditional slice management relies on static configurations and manual intervention: approaches that simply cannot keep pace with data-intensive, latency-sensitive workloads like robotic systems operating in Smart Cities.
Â
This project tackles that challenge head-on by extending a proven Agentic Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline that was previously validated for cloud-native autoscaling into the domain of 6G network slice lifecycle management. Deployed within the OTE Athens 6G-PATH testbed, the system introduces AI-driven reasoning directly into telecom infrastructure, targeting slice orchestration across core and backhaul network segments.
At the heart of the approach is an AI engine capable of interpreting live telemetry data, service-level agreements, and slice templates to propose and continuously adapt network configurations in real time. By integrating with OTE Athens slicing APIs, virtualized network functions (VNFs), and monitoring tools, the system autonomously optimizes slice allocation to meet the stringent performance requirements of robotic production and logistics scenarios, i.e., workloads that generate high volumes of video and sensor data demanding low-latency edge processing.
Key project activities include adapting the RAG pipeline to 6G-PATH infrastructure, developing intelligent orchestration strategies that reduce operator workload, and validating the system through a realistic Smart City use case centered on robotic coordination and process optimization.
The outcome will be a TRL7 demonstrator proving that AI-driven orchestration can meaningfully improve service quality, operational efficiency, and network resilience. Beyond its technical contributions, the project introduces a novel convergence of robotics, production optimization, and intelligent network management — enriching the broader 6G-PATH ecosystem and advancing the state of the art in autonomous 6G infrastructure.
